Bobby Mitchell

Bobby Howard Mitchell was born on July 17, 1936 to Donovan D. and Billie A. (Montgomery) Mitchell in Newcastle, Texas. He passed away in Graham, Texas on Friday August 26, 2011. He was 75 years old. Bobby married Virgie Ann Scarber on November 26, 1955 in Jacksboro, Texas. His first love, after his family, was his registered Angus cattle. Bob was one of the first ranchers to introduce artificial breeding to this area. He helped with AI schools and convinced a number of ranchers to go to school and breed their own cattle. He developed an outstanding herd and held several cattle sales. When his and his brother's health began to fail, it was time to disperse the herd in a final sale. It would seem he achieved his lifelong dream--an outstanding Angus Cattle herd and several great sales. Bob had retired from Southwestern Gas Pipeline in 1995 and was still young enough to devote his time to the cattle. Bob was a member of the Bryson Lions Club having served as president three times; a member of the Red River Angus Association and the Texas Angus Association. He was also a member of the Bryson First United Methodist Church serving as the youngest board chairman at 24 years of age. He and wife Virgie were avid square dancers and travelled over the United States camping and dancing with their other square dance friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donovan Rhea Mitchell. Among those left behind to cherish his loving memory include his wife Virgie of Bryson, Texas; his children Julie Mitchell Kinder of Bryson, David Paul Mitchell and wife Candi of Whitt, Texas and Christy Mitchell Hopper and husband Ronny of Bryson, Texas; his sister Ann Mitchell Deck and husband Gerald of Bryson, sister-in-law Pat Mitchell-Bell of Bryson, 10 grandchildren Mitzi Kinder Thomas and husband Tony of Bryson, Bryan E. Kinder of Lewisville, Texas, Monty Howard Mitchell and wife Lauren of Mineral Wells, Heather Jennings and husband Corey of Fort Worth, Megan Hopper, Cory Hopper and Jayton Hopper all of Bryson; 3 great-grandchildren Maci Brooke and Dyland Anthony Thomas of Bryson and Addison Blair Mitchell of Mineral Wells; 3 step-grandchildren Michael Underwood of San Diego, California, Wendi Rauspad and husband Jonathan of Flower Mound, Texas and Jennifer Smith of Arlington, Texas; 4 step-grandchildren Brycen and Camery McGee and Jax Rauspad of Flower Mound and Kason Smith of Arlington, Texas; many other nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. There will be a visitation on Sunday, August 28, 2011 from 3 to 4 pm at Coker Funeral Home in Jacksboro, Texas. Services will be Monday August 29, 2011 at 10 am at the First United Methodist Church in Bryson, Texas with burial following at the Cottonwood Cemetery in Bryson. In lieu of flowers please give memorials to the charity of your choice.
