Carl Nelson Spivey

Carl Nelson Spivey went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the age of 99. He was born on September 29, 1925, to Ada Leona McClure Spivey and James Hugh Spivey in Jacksboro, Texas. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Jacksboro High School as class valedictorian. He was in the Army Air Force training to be a navigator when WW2 came to an end. He returned to finish college at Texas Technological College. He received a degree in Electrical Engineering and worked in the oil business until retiring. Carl married Cora Ann Smith (whom he nicknamed “Cass”) of Jacksboro, Texas on November 25, 1948, and they raised 2 daughters. After Cass passed, he married Nancy Boand on November 30, 1991. Carl was active in the Presbyterian Church for most of his life and was a devoted follower of Christ. Carl loved camping, square dancing, classical music, playing games, working puzzles, and sharing the wonders of this beautiful county with his family. In his later years, he enjoyed visiting and photographing places all around the world as he and Nancy traveled to places such as Norway, England, Australia, and China to mention just a few. Carl was preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Ada Spivey; his siblings: Robert Spivey, Rev. James Spivey, and Margaret Prescott; his first wife Cass, and his second wife Nancy. Carl is survived by two daughters: Karen Davenport and husband Mitchell of Jacksboro, Texas, and Vicki Prouty and her husband Stephen of Plano, Texas. He also has two stepdaughters: Leslie Adkison of Boston, Massachusetts, and Jessica Lynn of Bakersville, N.C. Carl has three grandchildren: Brian Davenport and wife Leah of Jacksboro, Texas, Amber Clifford and husband Brent of Lubbock, Texas, and Andrew Nelson Davenport and wife Frances of Richardson, Texas. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren: Landon Davenport, Jett Davenport, Claire Davenport, Cora Clifford, Allison Clifford, and Noah Nelson Davenport who is soon to be a big brother. There will be a graveside service on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11:30 AM at the Oakwood Cemetery in Jacksboro, Texas to honor his life of service to his Savior, his family, and to our country.
