Carter Thornton

Carter Thornton flew away to heaven on October 9, 2015. Carter was a rancher in Jack County, Texas and Roy, New Mexico. Carter was a 2010 and 4th generation graduate of Jacksboro High School. He received his Bachelor of Science from Texas Tech University in 2014. Carter lived large and loved big. He had an infectious smile, always making people laugh. He was a true daredevil-simply dare him and it was done. Carter's last deed on this earth was to donate his organs. The lives he will extend are in for a fun ride!! Carter is preceded in death by the best ever uncle Deward and aunt Bob Potts; his namesake great-aunt Jean Oliver; his grandfather Mike Thornton; great-grandparents Ercyle Strange Tipton, Loyce Strange, Worth and Della Mae Nelson and Irvin and Arlene Martin, great-aunt and uncle Joan and Joe Smith. Among the many people who will cherish his memory include his parents Mike and Karen Thornton; brother Worth Thornton; his Moonga and Grandad Virginia and Robert Lee Martin; his Nana, Liz Jonas, his uncle, Keith Martin and wife Tamara; cousins Kayla Martin, Matt Smith, Leslie Kay Smith, Brian and Tammye Isbell and their children Seth and Wynn; great-aunt Dorothy Martin; two constant companions-his dogs Bud and Townes; and many other extended family members and friends. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 6-8 pm at Coker Funeral Home in Jacksboro. Services will be Wednesday, October 14th at 2 pm at First United Methodist Church in Jacksboro with burial following at Barton Chapel Cemetery in Jack County under the direction of Coker Funeral Home. Pallbearers include Bailey Francis, Hallie Bertrand, Gage Graybill, Korey Francis, Cal Francis, Kevin Thomas, Corey Banks and Kane Elenburg. Honorary pallbearers will be Keely Hamman, Mica Leonard, Sydney McCollum, Austin Murphy, Eric Franz, Braeden Mikeska, Tyler Batey, Chris Clark, Brayden Besselaar, Kyle Lawson, Clay McClure, Miles Maddox, Michael Lewis, Gunter Elenburg, Casey Spann, Trevor Vaughn, and Matt Castle.
