Charles McMennamy

Charles B. McMennamy was born on October 18, 1918 to William Henry and May (Mackey) McMennamy in Bokchito, Oklahoma. He was the sixth of eleven children. He died February 12, 2008 in Childress, Texas. He was 89 years old. Charles, affectionately known as Charlie, was loved and respected by all who knew him. He grew up in Quanah, Texas and worked as a cowboy on some of the largest ranches in West Texas, one of which was the famed Matador Ranch. After many years of hard ranching work, he moved his family to Abilene where he worked for Mrs. Baird?s Bakery. After several years he trained to become a pest control specialist. He moved to Clovis, New Mexico and started his own company, Mac?s Pest Control. After about twenty years, he sold that thriving business and moved to Bryson where he was a member of Bryson Baptist Church. Later he and his wife moved to Jacksboro where they enjoyed retirement. After his dear wife Oleta, passed away, and after his own health failed, Charlie moved to Greystone Assisted Living in Jacksboro and stayed there until he needed more nursing care. His final home was in a wonderful nursing facility in Childress where Charlie was content and happy to be near his grandchildren. Charlie was a quiet, unassuming man who loved his family very much. His warm smile and charm will be missed greatly as he could warm up any crowded room. His family predeceasing him are: his father William Henry McMennamy; his mother May (Mackey) McMennamy; his wife Oleta (Sparks) McMennamy; his sons Keith and Jimmy McMennamy; his daughter Jackie Roach. Charlie was the sixth of the eleven McMennamy children and the siblings who predeceased him are: Audrey McMennamy and later her twin brother Aubrey, Bill McMennamy, Tiney Ashford, Curtis McMennamy, Allie Scott and Lena Scott. He is survived by his two sisters Trudy Hughes of Wichita Falls and Juanita Combs of El Paso; one brother V. Dale McMennamy of Arlington, Texas; and his five beloved grandchildren Jimmy Lynn McMennamy of Venus, Texas, Tangie Copeland of Hedley, Texas, Terry Martin of Bryson, Texas, Toni Martin of Hedley, Texas and Misty McMennamy of Waxahachie, Texas. Services will be Saturday February 16, 2008 at 10am at Coker Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksboro with Bro. B.J. Nunley officiating. Burial will be Monday February 18, 2008 at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, New Mexico at 2:00pm.
