Glenda Gay (Jackson) Tillman

FORT WORTH - Glenda Gay Jackson Tillman, loved by those who knew her, passed away at the age of 88 on December 28, 2024. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2025, at First Baptist Church - Jacksboro, 200 North Knox Street, Jacksboro, Texas 76458. Viewing to be held one hour prior to service; interment to follow at Lynn Creek Cemetery. Born on June 26, 1936, to parents, Alvin Aaron Castleberry and Rosa Lou Ellen Jones, Gay was raised in Clay County, Texas, in Prospect, where she lived on a ranch. She attended Midway High School and, after graduating in 1954, she met Harold Don (Hap) Jackson. They were married on June 28, 1954, and with her husband she moved to Jacksboro, Texas. Later, Gay and Hap purchased some land southeast of Jacksboro and built a home where they raised their family. Gay started working as a bookkeeper in the Jack County Tax Assessor and Collector office in 1954. She later ran a campaign and won the public role of County Tax Assessor and Collector, holding the office for several terms. Then, she went to Wise County Appraisal District, where she worked until retirement. She enjoyed being around the public, and began waiting tables at several restaurants in Jacksboro. Gay also worked for Best Petroleum for several years, until Hap became ill and she made the decision to stay home in order to care for him. Hap died in February of 2005, and in 2006 Gay married Richard Tillman of Fort Worth; it was then that she moved to Fort Worth, where she lived until she passed away. Gay enjoyed singing and sang at many functions, including jamborees, weddings, and funerals. She was very athletic and played volleyball, softball, and basketball. She also enjoyed going on trail rides, with she and Hap riding from Jacksboro to Albany for over 25 years. Gay enjoyed cooking and baking; she particularly enjoyed making Amish Bread for friends and family. She also enjoyed making ice cream, and when anyone came by to see her, she always had homemade ice cream to share. Gay was devoted to serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She gave her heart to the Lord at an early age, serving as a Sunday School teacher and singing at church. Gay later devoted her life to praying for others, and helping where she could. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Aaron and Rosa Lou Ellen Castleberry; her first husband, Harold Don (Hap) Jackson; her son, Carvel Lee Jackson; her sister, Ara Lou Tillman; her brothers, Doyle and Kay Castleberry; and her great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Jackson. She is survived by her husband, Richard R. Tillman; her son, Jerry Don Jackson and wife, Debra; her son, David Glynn Jackson and wife, Carrie; her grandchildren, Corey Jackson and wife, Brittany, Rebecca Cheshier and husband, Kevin, Rachel Lyon, and Stephen Jackson and wife, Jessica; her great-grandchildren, Kayla Loosier, John and Jesse Powers, Ashley and Lily Cheshier, Harper, Hadley, and Hannah Jackson, Luke Lyon, and Jubilee Jackson.
