Kevin Earl Florance

Kevin Earl Florance, 65, of Jacksboro, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024. Kevin's story begins with his father, James Earl Florance, falling in love with the girl next door—the beautiful Winona Dellene McCaghren. James and Dellene Florance welcomed their first son, Kevin, into the world on July 28, 1959. His parents' lifelong love and guidance shaped his journey, defined by faith, family, hard work, and deep ties to his community. Jacksboro, Texas, is Kevin's lifelong home, and he was enduringly proud of his small town and its people. He loved living where family or friends could be found down every street, only a bike ride away from his childhood home—a home filled with cherished memories of his Father, Mother, and younger brother, Keith. Kevin was honored to have the experience of growing up in a small town where your mother helped run the local scout club; your cousin's picture appeared next to yours in the yearbook, and your parents' friends had eyes on you all over town- ready to step in when mischief was afoot. He loved his small town, a place where the carwash became one of the hottest spots after the sun went down. Lifelong bonds were forged cruising Main Street—moving with the flow of life, a good song turned up, and the night's next adventure waiting ahead. These were the bonds that turned friends into family over time. His small town always had an event around the courthouse where the community came to fellowship with each other. You could often find him behind the drums at these events and other gatherings. His love of drumming began as a percussionist in the school band and stayed with him throughout his life. Kevin loved that the faces he grew up with were the same ones you now see running the city—greeting you as you step into local banks, restaurants, churches, and businesses. Each person brightens your day with a familiar smile. Among all these places in town, Kevin's favorite, without question, was the business his father started: Florance Paint and Body. Kevin worked alongside his father for most of his life at their family business. He often recounted stories of working a wreck as a kid in the early morning hours and climbing out of the ditch to catch the bus to school. As a dedicated employee of the school, his mother would not accept the absence of one of her sons on a school day. Over time, he took over the reins when his father entrusted him with the shop. Kevin’s dedication and integrity made Florance Paint and Body more than just a business—it became a place of trust, faith, and homegrown generosity. The shop was a place people stopped by, even if they didn't need car work. It was a place of fellowship—a refuge to pause from life's storms, share a laugh, reminisce about the oilfield days, or enjoy a good conversation. The second chair in the office was rarely empty, a testament to the warmth and joy Kevin brought to those around him. Visitors often left with more than just kind words—whether it was a Bible verse for encouragement, prayers, fresh eggs, or, in the right season, a handful of green beans. Kevin's passion for motorcycles was legendary. His love for riding began as a toddler when his Grandad's visits meant the thrill of a motorcycle ride on his blue 1958 Harley, and it never waned—from childhood weekends spent with family at hill climbing races to eventually being the proud owner of his own Harley motorsickle. He spent countless hours racing against the sun and enjoying the open road. He cherished all of the memories and miles shared with those he loved. In later years, he exchanged his motorcycle for a John Deere tractor, finding the same joy in farming on the land he loved so much. Kevin found peace and purpose on his farm, where he lived with the love of his life, his wife, Paula; their cherished poodles, Buddy and Sugar; Bonnie, the loyal farm dog; and many other animals blessed to call the farm home. Together, they built a life that reflected Kevin's values: hard work, simplicity, and gratitude. His home on the outskirts of Jacksboro embodied his spirit—a place of faith, effort, and reward. Kevin's greatest calling of all his roles was as a servant of God. His unwavering faith inspired him to preach the word of God, planting seeds of hope and faith wherever he went. His life was a living testimony to his belief in helping others, and his impact extended far beyond what can ever be measured by man. Kevin Earl Florance is survived by his small town of family, friends, and loyal customers who will forever remember his kindness, faith, and unwavering dedication. He leaves a legacy rooted in hard work, love, and an unshakable faith in God. His life will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Concerned Citizens, an organization he deeply admired for supporting the community and honoring the cherished memories of him and his wife delivering meals. Contributions may also be made to the Jacksboro Fire Department Christmas Stocking Fund, a tradition he held dear in his heart as one of the town’s most beloved customs. His Celebration of Life was held on February 22, 2025, at the Halliburton Building in Jacksboro, TX.
