Verda Lee King, 89, of Longview, Texas Services for Verda Lee King, 89, of Longview will be at 2 pm, Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Coker Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksboro, Texas with burial following in the Graceland Cemetery in Jermyn, Texas. There will be a visitation prior to the service at the funeral home from 1-2 pm. Verda died on Friday, August 16, 2013 in Longview. She was born in Jermyn, Texas on March 1, 1924, the daughter of James Albert and Romie Lorene Crum. She married Lewis King from Jermyn, Texas on June 9, 1945. Lewis was a pilot in World War II and a farmer/rancher in Palo Pinto, Jack, and Young counties. Verda was smart, quick witted, very perceptive, and a devoted Christian mother. She was also a graduate of Weatherford Junior College and worked as a secretary, bookkeeper and English teacher. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Longview, Texas. Verda Lee, was a very intelligent lady who became the historian of the family. She helped our family understand and appreciate the people who came before us. They forged a path for us and Verda Lee also layed a path for her children to live by which included loving God, being respectful and working hard. One of her talents was her ability to spell any word that was given to her. She loved to read, and to write to family, and friends. You could often read her mind by looking at her facial expressions. If the timing had been right, she might have become a famous actress. But she chose to follow God’s path of raising three wonderful children. She spent many hours praying for her family. The legacy she leaves her family is to love God and our family unconditionally. She was self-sacrificing and devoted to her family. Her family misses her deeply but looks forward to the time that they will all be together in Heaven with her. Survivors include her daughter Dixie Houston of Franklin, Tennessee, son Charles King of Anchor Point, Alaska, son Kris King of Longview, Texas; three sisters, Wanda Boyd of Millsap, Texas, Barbara "Bobby" Newton of Petrolia, Texas, Gwen Fitzgerald of Jacksboro, Texas; six grandchildren Robert Houston, Kara Tillery, Christy King-Gilmore, Wendy Lee Edney, Nicholas J. King and Kelly Ann White, eight great-grandchildren, Jayden Tillery, Alexis Tillery, Ireland Edney, Scout Edney, Naya White, Reef White, Ethan King and Gray Gilmore, and numerous nieces and nephews.
