Kathleen Crain

December 14, 1928 - January 26, 2021

Kathleen P. Crain passed away on January 26, 2021 in Fort Worth. She was 92. Kathleen was born to Arthur Andrew Powell and Vergie Vera (Haralson) Powell on December 14, 1928 in Bonita, Texas. She was married to Sam Crain on March 10, 1952. An earlier marriage to Stephen William Ussery ended in divorce. She was most recently a resident in assisted living in Fort Worth. Kathleen and Sam Crain worked side by side in Nocona, Texas, first running a tailor shop and later a western wear clothing factory. In 1969, Mrs. Crain began the career she thoroughly enjoyed, and which would last the rest of her working days, as a home buyer and sales supervisor for locally owned McClurkan’s Dept. Stores in Wichita Falls, Texas. She used to joke that she would work until the end and they would find her propped in a corner of the store someday. But alas, McClurkan’s became Dunlap’s and Dunlap’s later closed all of their stores. Mrs. Crain was forced into retirement in her late 70’s. Kathleen loved to work in the yard and spent much of her free time growing and caring for her beautiful flowers. She also loved feeding and watching the birds. She enjoyed antiquing and filling her home, inside and out, with beautiful things. Kathleen is survived by her son, Michael Ussery and his wife, Susan McCauley, of Silver Spring, MD; her daughter, Autumn Pardue and her partner, David Haas, of Fort Worth; a granddaughter, Arianne Walker and her husband, Adam Walker, of Houston; a grandson, Jack Pardue and his wife, Elizabeth Pardue, of Jacksboro; great-grandchildren, Graham and Georgiana Walker and Brynn and Lochlan Pardue; two sisters, Grace Talley of Decatur and Donna Lemons of Nocona; and a brother, Bobby Powell of Overland Park, KS. She was preceded in death in 1992 by her husband Sam, and by her parents, six brothers and one sister. A graveside service will be Friday, January 29, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Jacksboro. Friends and family are welcome to attend with the understanding that masks are required and social distancing will be observed. The family appreciates your cooperation. Memorials may be given to a hospice care service of your choice, or to the National Audubon Society, 225 Varick St., New York, NY 10014. https://act.audubon.org/a/donate?ms=digital-fund-web-website_nas-topmenu_donate_20200800
