Johnnie Thompson Russell

Johnnie Louise (Thompson) Russell, 71, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was born on January 15, 1949 to J.C. Thompson and Oleitha Dell (Bishop) Thompson in Fort Worth, Texas. Johnnie married Joe Russell on December 19, 1970 in Haslet, Texas. They most of their married life in Godley, Texas raising their two children, Janet and John. She made friends throughout community and at church. She taught Cosmetology at Castleberry for 24 years. After retirement, she and Joe moved to Perrin, TX. Johnnie was an active member at FBC Perrin where she enjoyed helping with fellowships and funeral dinners. Because of the many friends she made over the years, both Godley and Perrin held a special place in her heart. Johnnie enjoyed planting flowers and yard work as well as anything Disney and Micky Mouse. She enjoyed raising Braunviegh cattle and watching them in the show ring. She loved spoiling her dogs and “grand puppies”. Johnnie loved everything about Christmas, especially the decorations. Johnnie believed life should be fun, so whether it was playing basketball in the classroom, wearing a crazy costume or cutting up with someone at church, she tried to make everything fun. Johnnie’s world revolved around her family. She was proud of Janet and John, and they knew she would do anything for them. She loved her son-in-law and daughter-in-law as if they were her own children. In fact, she often purposely tried to treat them better than her own kids. But nothing brightened her day more than her grandkids. Her favorite thing to do was watch them show livestock, play basketball and participate in any other activity they might be in. She loved them so dearly that she even let them “dress her up” on different occasions. Needless to say, she would do anything for her grandkids. Joe was the love of her life. She sincerely enjoyed being married to him and supporting him in all of their endeavors. In their later years, she enjoyed just spending quality time with him. Whether it was sitting and watching tv together or driving around their home place, she enjoyed the the quality time with Joe. They were married for 50 years. Johnnie is preceded in death by her parents and son in law Randy White. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Joe Russell; children, Janet Cole and husband Jay and John Russell and wife Loren; grandchildren, Jadyn White, Jacie Russell and Katie Russell; sisters, Exsa Lee Reeves and husband Sonny, and Jane Harmonson and husband Morris. She will also be missed by nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held 5pm – 7 pm Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Coker Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10 am Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Perrin, Texas. A burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Weatherford, Texas. The Funeral Service will be Live Streamed through the First Baptist Church Perrin's Facebook page.
