Terry Glen (Big R) Rhoades Sr.

Terry Glen Rhoades Sr., affectionately known to family, friends, and colleagues as "Big R," passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, at the age of 80, with the love of his life, his wife, Billie Carol Rhoades, holding his hand. Their 46 years of marriage were a testament to enduring love, unwavering devotion, and true partnership. Born on January 14, 1946, in Jack County, Texas, Terry was the son of R.B. Rhoades and Mildred Smith Rhoades. He was the middle of three children, growing up alongside his brother, Larry Rhoades, and his sister, Sueann Rhoades Burnside. Terry spent nearly his entire life in Jack County, leaving only briefly to attend college for one year in Ranger, Texas. From an early age, Terry knew cattle buying was his calling. He worked at a local gas station to earn enough money to buy a few head of cattle to trade. That determination grew into a lifetime devoted to cattle. "Big R" became known and respected by cattle buyers far and wide for his honesty, fairness, knowledge, and a handshake that was as good as his word. Later in life, Terry discovered another passion in the world of bucking bulls. He loved the sport and the people who were part of it, forming countless lifelong friendships. Above all else, Terry loved his family and friends. He was known for his quick wit, loved telling jokes, and enjoyed playing 42 with his lifelong school buddies. Whether at a sale barn, in the pasture, around a domino table, or surrounded by family and friends, Terry lived with purpose, generosity, and faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, R.B. Rhoades and Mildred Smith Rhoades, and his brother, Larry Rhoades. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Billie Carol Rhoades; his son, Terry Glenn Rhoades Jr. and wife Shannon Rhoades; his daughter, Melissa Rhoades Hinckley and husband Mike Hinckley; his stepson, Ronnie Smith Jr.; his stepdaughter, Jennifer Cearley and husband Kap Cearley, and their son Ketch Cearley; his sister, Sueann Rhoades Burnside; his cherished grandchildren, Terry Glenn Rhoades III, Amber, Cassidyn, Carley, Kimberley, and Katie; and several beloved great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on through those he loved and the countless friendships he built across the cattle and bucking bull communities. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who proudly knew him as "Big R."
